Manager News – October 2018
Fidelity Fixed Interest:
Ian Spreadbury, lead manager of Fidelity’s flagship MoneyBuilder Income, Strategic Bond, Flexible Bond and Extra Income funds, has announced his planned retirement at the end of 2018. Spreadbury, who joined Fidelity in 1995, will leave responsibility for the MoneyBuilder Income and Extra Income funds to the current co-manager Sajiv Vaid, who will be supported by Kristian Atkinson. Joint responsibility for the Strategic Bond and Flexible Bond finds will fall to Tim Foster and Claudio Ferrarese.
HSBC Fixed Income:
HSBC adds two senior managers to its fixed income team. Oliver Boulind from Aberdeen will be responsible for managing Global Bond and Global Return portfolios. Richard Balfour from Barings will be responsible for manging Global and UK Fixed Income portfolios. Both will report to Ernst Osiander, Head of Global Bonds.
First State Global Resources:
First State will close its Global Resources fund in December as it has under-performed the sector and has seen its assets under management drop significantly. It was co-managed by Tal Lomnitzer and Todd Warren who took over from Joanne Warner in 2017; who had previously managed the fund for 20 years.
Janus Henderson European Equity:
Director of European Equity, Tim Stevenson, has announced that he will be retiring in 2019. He was a co-manager of the €1.4bn Horizon Pan European Equity fund and £230m Euro Trust. Having been at Janus Henderson for 32 years, he will remain with the European Equity Team on a transitional basis through the first quarter of 2019 and in this time will offer advice to co-manager James Ross, who will then be appointed as sole manager. The team-based approach to equity investments means the portfolios will be managed in the same way following Stevenson’s departure.
