Manager News – March 2020

Schroders European Income:

The manager of the Schroders European Alpha Income fund, James Sym, is leaving the group to join River & Mercantile to launch a range of European equity funds later this year.  Martin Skanberg, who runs the Schroders European fund, has been appointed by the firm as Sym’s successor and there will be no changes to the investment strategy as a result of this manager change.

Janus Henderson China Equity:

Charlie Awdry, who has been the manager of the Janus Henderson China Opportunities and Horizon China funds since 2006 and 2015 respectively, is leaving the group at the end of August 2020 to take a career break.  May Ling Wee, who has been Awdry’s co-manager since 2017 will take responsibility for both portfolios on his departure.

BNY Mellon Global Income:

RWC has hired Nick Clay, Andrew MacKirdy and two analysts; Robert Canepa-Anson and Colin Rutter, from BNY Mellon, where they managed the flagship Newton Global Income fund, to launch a new franchise.  Ilga Haubelt, Newton’s Head of Equity Opportunities has been appointed by the group to succeed Clay and MacKirdy, having previously ran a global equity income fund at Deka Investment.

Downing UK Equity:

Rosemary Banyard, formerly of Sanford De Land (SDL) and Schroders, is joining Downing Fund Managers to launch a UK equity fund later this year.  Banyard previously managed the SDL Free Spirit fund and the Schroders UK Smaller Companies fund.
