Manager News – May 2018

Schroders UK Growth Trust:

Baillie Gifford will take over the management of the Schroders UK Growth investment trust which will be renamed to the Baillie Gifford Growth trust no later than 13th July 2018.  The new management team will be led by Milena Mileva, with a change of strategy also expected

 

Henderson Alternative Strategies Trust:

Ian Barrass, co-manager of the Henderson Alternative Strategies Trust, is to leave the business due to an ongoing health issue.  Existing co-manager, James De Bunsen, will remain at the helm of the trust and will be joined by Peter Webster.

 

Henderson Opportunities Trust:

Janus Henderson has announced that Colin Hughes is to step down as co-manager on the Henderson Opportunities trust, with co-manager James Henderson taking charge in the interim.  Laura Foll, who is co-manager with Henderson on the group’s UK Income fund, will become co-manager of the Henderson Opportunities Trust.

 

BlackRock European Equity:

Alice Gaskell, co-manager on the BlackRock Continental European Income, BlackRock GF Euro Markets and BlackRock GF European Equity Income funds, is leaving the firm.  Andreas Zoellinger, who has been co-manager alongside Gaskell on the Continental European Income fund since inception in May 2011, will act as lead manager once Gaskell departs.  He will also assume sole responsibility for the GF Euro Markets and GF European Equity Income funds, supported by the wider European Equity team.

 

Majedie UK Income:

Chris Reid, co-manager of the Majedie UK Income fund, is set to leave the firm at the end of June 2018 to pursue other opportunities.  The UK Income fund will now be led by Mark Wharrier alongside existing co-manager Yuri Khodjamirian.

 

Jupiter Corporate Bond:

Jupiter has promoted Harry Richards and Adam Darling to co-manage its Corporate Bond fund, after Rhys Petheram stepped down from managing this fund to focus on other duties at the firm.  Richards had been a co-manager on the company’s Strategic Bond and Dynamic Bond funds since 2016, whereas Darling joined Jupiter in 2015 as a credit analyst.

 

Janus Henderson UK Strategic Income:

Janus Henderson will close its UK Strategic Income fund on 2nd July due it no longer being economically viable to run a fund with assets under management falling to circa £11 million.  The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has agreed to the closure and deemed it was unnecessary to seek investor approval.  Dealing in the fund will cease at 12pm on 29th June, to allow for commencement of closure the following business day.

 

Neptune Latin America:

Neptune Investment Management has announced its Latin America fund manager Tom Smith is to take over responsibility for their India fund as Kunal Desai leaves the firm.  Tom Smith is also being promoted to co-head of emerging markets alongside Ewan Thompson, with the pair both previously being assistant managers on the India fund.

 

Newton Real Return:

Newton Investment Management has hired BlackRock’s Andy Warwick as co-lead portfolio manager on its Real Return team.  Warwick will join Newton at the end of July 2018, reporting to Suzanne Hutchins and will co-manage the Newton Real Return and BNY Mellon Real Return Strategies alongside Hutchins and Aron Pataki.
