Manager Changes - March 2008

Smith & Williamson Global Gold & Resources:

Charles Oliver left Smith & Williamson in January where he managed their Global Gold & Resources fund.  Oliver launched this fund in 2004 and has been replaced by his mentor and veteran Bob Farquharson.  Farquharson is the Vice President of AGF funds, which is based in Toronto, who run the portfolio on an outsourced basis.  He joined in 1963 and has been investing in gold and resource related companies ever since.

M&G Asia:

Aled Smith has stepped down as lead manager of the M&G Asia fund and will be replaced by Michael Godfrey and Matthew Vaight with immediate effect.  Smith will remain involved with the portfolio as a deputy and is still the lead manager of the M&G Global Leaders and American funds.  Godfrey is the deputy manager of the M&G Asia fund and was previously a global equity analyst with the group.  Vaight joined M&G in 1996 and is also the deputy manager of the Global Basics fund.

Baillie Gifford Emerging Markets:

Baillie Gifford has reshuffled its Emerging Markets desk and removed Gerald Smith as lead manager of the Emerging Markets Growth fund handing responsibility to Richard Sneller working alongside William Sutcliffe.  Smith will remain with the group as Head of Emerging Markets and will continue to have an input on stock selection.  Sneller has also been handed the Emerging Markets Large Capitalisation Companies fund, taking over from Sutcliffe, where he will work alongside Tom Record.

Newton International Growth:

Paul Butler has left Newton where he was Head of Global Equities and manager of the Newton International Growth fund to pursue other interests outside the industry.  Jon Bell has been appointed as his replacement and will also head up the group’s Global Equity model portfolio.
